67 Blankets for Mandela Day is an inspiring initiative that was started in December 2013 when Zelda la Grange, the assistant to late former President Nelson Mandela presented philantropiist Carolyn Steyn with a challenge to knit, sew or cratchet 67 blankets that would be distributed to the less fortunate on the 128th of July, Mandela day.

Since then, the challenge has been accepted by thousands of ordinary South Africans and become a nationwide movement. It has been described by Journalist Cathy Dipnall as “an initiative that is binding together our nation in a way no gvernment has been able to achieve.”

This year, Sesego Cares has joined in on the movement by donating 60 immaculately knitted scarves made by women from Rose village in Roosevelt Park.
